Intermediate: 4th & 5th Grade
4th grade created Picasso inspired self portraits. Focusing on elements of Cubism, students drew and used cray-pas to color in their portraits.
4th graders worked together to create this installation inspired by Kandinsky. They learned about concentric circles, and created their own on canvas. The canvases were then grouped together to create a lager piece of art that was a spin off of Kandinsky's painting: Farbstudie Quadrate, c.1913.
These hamburgers were inspired by Matisse's cutouts. The 5th graders really took to this project to create their ultimate sandwich!
Cute farm animals created by 4th graders. Bodies were made from newspaper and clothespins for legs.
5th graders learned about horizon line and 1pt. perspective to create their dessert landscapes. They then colored in their work with marker.
4th graders learned about Keith Haring, and each designed their own figure base on his figure drawings. Students then cut out their figures to make a stencil, and then traced their figure on each others paper; one could say it was a collaborate piece. They then chose either warm or cool colors to decorate with, while adding Haring's famous "movement" line to some of the figures.
These branchy, curvy, twisty pumpkin patches were created by 5th grade. We discussed different types of lines, and how to enhance an artworks composition with different types of lines and various complementary colors. The results were so fun and varied amongst the students, as personalities really shown through in their pumpkin patches!
The below picture shows 5th and how they were inspired by Picasso's painting called the Three Musicians, c. 1921. They took their own spin on the project and designed musicians that were relevant to them.
Below is a picture of table collaborations between 4th and 5th graders. Each table group was given leftover supplies from various other art projects and then designed their own version on the Mona Lisa. The final products are so creative!
